On way to blood bank the other day, stopped to buy the core rulebooks for 3rd Ed AD&D the other day (was feeling tired and drained and in need of cheering up.) Achieved personal best, providing 470 ml of Crimson Life Fluid (TM) in just over eight minutes.

Converted our ongoing game to 3rd Ed. Not entirely enthusiastic about some things - mega-damaging Big Spear much toned down in 3rd Ed, had to convert nifty wooden armour to leather, less 1st level spells. On bright side, was able to change character to full elf, but still a bit iffy.

Ooh. Allowed an animal companion of two HD or less. Rejected most options. Baboon? Too messy. Bat/lizard/rat/raven? Too fragile. Cat/owl/eagle/hawk/wolf? So five minutes ago. Dog? Can't really see Calair as a dog person. Octopus? *blinkblinkblink* Distinctive, would've liked one, but not very practical for a land-based game. Porpoise? Er, no.

Snake, medium-size viper. *swoon*

Portable. Low-maintenance. Combat-capable. Snake. Snaaaaaake. No more complaints about 3rd Ed are heard from this quarter. (On a more serious note, thoroughly approve of the 3rd Ed changes.)

Freshly converted characters head out on their next adventure. Attacked by wolves. Demonstrate their part in the Circle of Life to them, utilising sharpened ogre femur as teaching aid. Afterwards, convert somewhat battered wolfskin into comfortable warm carrying pouch for Liass. Still having lots of fun playing 1st level character, even if aforementioned snake *does* have more hits than my PC.)

However, there's still one thing to do. The thing I did with every other RPing system I've ever bought. The christening.

*heads off to create a ridiculously over-powered munchkin character for the hell of it*
